The Earth’s elements, c 1600s. Based on Aristotelian physics, the print shows the world as circular layers with the fires of Hell at the centre and the heavens at the edge. Titled 'Veritable Representation des Premieres Matieres ou Elements', the engraving is thought to be a folio bookplate produced in Holland during the seventieth century.
