Mithras being born from a rock (petra genetrix). This statue was dedicated by Aurelius Bassinus, the curator and custodian of the sacred places of the barracks of the peregrini. The two flanking altars are devoted to Cautes and Cautopates twin deities of the Mithraic religion. Marble, Antonine, ca. 180-192 CE.
