Siphon (wine jug) with heads of a white woman and of a black man. From Athens. Ca. 490-480 BCE. The syphon was lowered into a wine jar with the liquid entering through sieve at the bottom. After closing the tube on the top with a thumb the wine could easily be transferred to another container.
