Throne stool of Oba Eresoyen. Nigeria, Benin people, 1735-1750. Cast brass, H:40 cm, D:40.5 cm, W: 96.3 Kg. The Oba was the ruler of the Benin kingdom. On the stool are the sun, moon, and crosses as symbols of divine creation referring to the cosmos; different tools symbolize civilisation.
