Manuscript page from a Beatus of Liébana Commentary on Apocalypse of St. John. The fourth vision; Nebuchadnezzar's dream about the tree that reaches the sky, and the vision of himself grazing [Daniel, chapter 4]. The king is standing in fine garments holding a sword, in a building with decorative pilasters and crowned by crenellations. The smaller figure of Daniel, wearing an ankle-length gown and cloak, stands with his arms outstretched towards the king, explaining the meaning of the dream. Image taken from Silos Apocalypse copied and illuminated in the Spanish monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, Spain, 1109. Author, St. Beatus of Liebana, Illustrated by Petrus. Add. MS 11695 f232v.
