The Madness of King Charles VI of France the Well-Beloved. 1839. Oil on canvas, 164 x 131 cm. The king was subjected to exorcism by Augustinian monks in the presence of his mistress Odette de Champdivers. He suffered over 40 attacks of madness beginning in 1392 until his death. Inv. I. 9.
