Moose-antler comb. Moose and elk antlers were widely used throughout North America for weapons, tools and ornaments. The Iroquois in the north-east - particularly the Senecas - are famous for combs with fine figurative carving. Before 1730. Possibly Algonquian. The exterior surface of the comb is carved with a lightning-like zig-zag line and adorned with red ochre. From the collections of Sir Hans Sloane. Inv. ET Am,SL.758.
