Scent-fountain, formed of half a horizontal Seychelles nut, with silver-gilt mounts. Germany, Augsburg, 1576-1600, 1800s (finial). Spout at one end in form of monstrous animal's head; foot, band embossed with reptiles, another with swimming dolphins; cover similar and surmounted with modern addition of Jupiter astride his eagle. Chased, embossed, engraved, gilded, cast; seychelles nut (half of a nut of the female double coconut palm [Lodoicea maldivica], silver, h. 44.5 cm (with finial (separated)); l. 36 cm; w. 19 cm.
