Musical horn, carved throughout with geometric and figurative scenes in low relief. Edo peoples, From Benin City, Nigeria, 1525.-1600. Key motifs from base upwards include: armillary sphere framed by the characteristic Benin 'step' design; long-haired European man in profile blowing a long horn; Portuguese coat of arms. The tip of the horn is decorated with a band of interlocking lozenges. Elephant ivory, 40 x 6.5 cm. Inv. Af1959,14.2.
