MEXICO, the Tro-Cortesianus or Madrid codex combines the codex Troano and Cortesiano: it is only one codex; Brasseur de Bourbourg facsimile (1869); Maya culture. Two personages: the god “M”, painted in black, holding a spear. Behind him, a prisoner, his hands attached on his back: he will be sacrificed; his attached hands are symbolic as prisoners would never run away. A great number of Maya gods are only named by letters and their characteristics are symbols. Above them, lines and dots are numbers, often elements of the calendar. To the left, glyphs: writing system where certain glyphs express concepts, others syllables. This codex is made of horoscopes and calendars in order to assist the priests in their predictions and ceremonies.
