MEXICO, the Tro-Cortesianus or Madrid codex combines the codex Troano and Cortesiano: it is only one codex; Brasseur de Bourbourg facsimile (1869); Maya culture. The god “B” with a dog at his feet sowing weeds , probably maize. Behind him, another personage sitting on the sign “Caban” (sign of Earth): he is the god “F” bitten by two snakes; the third personage represents the same god “F” sitting also on the sign “Caban”; he is attacked by a blackbird which could be a crow, or a “pitch”, typical bird of Yucatan. A great number of Maya gods are only named by letters and their characteristics are symbols. These three personages symbolize the dangers for the peasant working in the fields. Above them, lines and dots are numbers, often elements of the calendar. To the left and on top, glyphs: writing system where certain glyphs express concepts, others syllables. This codex is made of horoscopes and calendars to assist the priests in their predictions and ceremonies.
