MEXICO, the Tro-Cortesianus or Madrid codex combines the codex Troano and Cortesiano: it is only one codex; facsimile Matev-Madrid 1930; Maya culture. Two personages painted in black sitting face to face: they are gods “M” making a fire; traces of feet symbolize a long walk. The personages are wearing loin clothes. For the Mayas, the East where the sun rises is the reference as the North is for us. Up left, the glyphs of East, down the North, up right the South and down the West. Lines and dots are numbers, often elements of the calendar. Glyphs are a writing system where certain glyphs express concepts, others syllables. This codex is made of horoscopes and calendars in order to assist the priests in their predictions and ceremonies.  Coll. Mexico National Archive.
