Padlock (cadenas) of the Empress (large vermilion of the Emperor). 1804. The padlock had the shape of a tray, one of the ends of which housed a box for the cover and sometimes for the spices. The box of the Empress's padlock, with its compartments for salt and pepper, is adorned with a frieze depicting a Cupid swinging on a garland of flowers supported by two zephyrs. Vermeil, 14 x 37 cm.
