The American aviator, Howard Robard Hughes (1905-1976), at Newark Airport after breaking the transcontinental air record from Los Angeles to Newark. Averaging 332 miles an hour. Hughes established a new record of 7 hours 28 minutes and 27 seconds, one hour 56 minutes and 43 seconds better than his previous record, established 1/4/1936. The plane was designed and built by Hughes' own company.
