Sir Charles Warre Malet, Concluding a Treaty in 1790 in Durbar with the Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. 1805. Malet, of the East India Company, presents a scroll to the Peshwa Madhavrao II, formalising an alliance against another Indian ruler, Tipu Sultan of Mysore. Oil paint on canvas, 1823 x 2785 mm. Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to Tate 2007 (T12609).
