Quadriga race in a circus. Roman mosaic, late 2nd -early 3rd CE. On three sides a veil offers spectators protection from rain or shade. The 'spina" at the center is occupied by a statue of Cybele on a lion. The victorious charioteer on the top left carries the victory palm. This is the earliest representation of a Roman circus on a mosaic.
