Crocodile, emblem of a clan. Melanesia, Papua-New Guinea, East Sepik, Middle Sepik River, Iatmul people, early 20th CE. It indicates the mythical origin of a Iatmul clan and was kept in the chief's home. It was shown during their funerals and during the construction of a new house for a clan's chief.
