Magic figure. Congo, Bembe people, 20th CE. It has an orifice near the anus where the "nganga" introduces the "bilongo" (medicines) or the relics of ancestors. Afterwards, the opening is being sealed with fabric or a plug. While the spirit lives inside the statue, it watches over the descendants and punishes transgressions against customs and rules. Wood, faience, 18.18 x 6.83 x 5.37 cm.
