Frontispiece to the Diamond Sutra showing the Buddha preaching, surrounded by monks and bodhisattvas. The monk kneeling in front of the Buddha is Subhuti. Frontispiece was not at the very beginning of the album, but followed the depiction of eight Vajrapa?i (thunderbolt bearers), the last of which is on the back, holding up a vajra, identified by Chinese inscription (OA 1919,0101,0.212.2). Painted in ink and colours on paper. Five Dynasties, 901-950 (circa). Excavated/Findspot: Qian Fo Dong, Ch.xi.001-2 (from bundle Ch.xi at Cave 17 at Ch’ien Fo Tung (pinyin: Qian Fo Dong))
