Chef De Piece (France), 1790-99; Manufactured by Louis Bire et Verdonnet, France. Cotton; block printed on plain weave with blocks for red and black. Warp x Weft: 36.2 × 90.2 cm (14 1/4 × 35 1/2 in.). Stamp at one end: "Louis Bire & Verdonnet de Bourdeaux. Bon Teint." in square within elongated oval. Also "D.1306",and "N 32" in compartments at either side of the oval. Also "LAC" in black within box and "Comm. N 2" in black. Also faint indication of another mark, "LBV 32". All of these marks are on the front of the piece. Gift of Cora Ginsburg (1994-80-35).
