Textile fragment with shou. China (probably), 1300-1400. The stylized Chinese character shou, means 'longevity'. Supposedly from the medieval urban centre of Fustat in Egypt. It is possible that silks were made specially for the Mamluk empire (1250-1517). Silk damask. Given by Dudley B. Myers, esq. Inv. 1108-1900.
