Model Sailing Boat Transporting a Mummy. Ca. 1900-1885 B.C. Egypt, Middle Kingdom, Dynasty 12. Reign of Amenemhat II, late. This model represents a funerary bark transporting the deceased Djehuty. His mummified body lies on a bier under a canopy and is tended by two women who play the roles of the goddesses Isis and Nephthys, sisters of the funerary god Osiris. From Egypt, Memphite Region, Lisht South, tomb B (Djehuty), South Area, between tomb and south enclosure wall, MMA excavations, 1930-31. Wood, paint. L. 80.6 cm (31 3/4 in.); W. 21.2 cm (8 3/8 in.); H. to top of mast 54 cm (21 1/4 in.); Beam L. 23 cm (9 1/16 in.). Rogers Fund, 1932 (32.1.124a).
