Dubufe, Edouard Louis (1820-1883)
Congress of Paris, February 25 to March 30, 1856. Painted 1856. In the foreground the leading figures of the conflict: Count Orloff, Russia, who is turning away, opposite Walewski and Lord Clarendon, who seem to invite their Ottoman ally with their glances to the negotiation table. Cavour, creator of Italian unification, looks at the scene as a simple observer standing near Lord Cowley who interposes as if to protect the Austria represented by Buol. Oil on canvas, 308 x 510 cm. Inv. MV1994.
