Miyagawa Choshun (1682-1752)
Pastimes of the new year and flower viewing, a pair of Japanese handscroll paintings, Edo period, about AD 1724-44. The scroll shows both indoor and outdoor games and pastimes for the New Year, such as battledore and shuttlecock, bouncing ball, backgammon, cards and painting. The signature reads 'Nihon-e Miyagawa Chôshun zu' ('Japanese picture drawn by Miyagawa Chôshun'). The seal reads 'Chôshun no in'. H: 401mm, L: 5100 mm. reg. no: AC 1881,1210,0.1707-1708.
