Lorenzo Monaco (c.1370/75-c.1425/30)
San Benedetto Altarpiece. Adoring Saints: Right Main Tier Panel, including Saints Romuald (in white), Peter holding keys, John the Evangelist with a book inscribed with words from his Gospel (1: 1), Lawrence and Dominic. 1407-9. The altarpiece comes from the Camaldolese monastery (now destroyed) of San Benedetto fuori della Porta a Pinti, Florence. Egg tempera on wood, 197.2 x 101.5 cm. Presented by William Coningham, 1848 (NG216).
