Tosa Mitsusada (1738 -1806)
Lacquer inrô, Edo period, 18th century AD. This inrô is an exceptionally fine example of the makie technique, which imitates sumie (ink-painting). The design was made by carefully polishing away the top gold layer to reveal the black lacquer underneath. It is signed by the lacquerer Kanshôsai and it is also inscribed with the name of the painter, Tosa Mitsusada, who created the design of shellfish and seaweed. L: 7.7cm. reg. no: AC 1945,1017.405.
