Statue of the giant Padmasambhava, master of Indian tantra, in the courtyard of the Jokhang Sanctuary. In the 8th CE he founded the monastery of Samye south of Lhasa and the first Tibetan Buddhist university. In his left he holds a trident the head of demons. Pilgrims offer yak butter for oil lamps.
