Jar. 14th century, Mamluk period. Grayish earthenware body, underglaze-painted in cobalt blue and black on white slip, transparent glaze, H. 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm). While the lower inscriptions written in black are pseudo-inscriptions and therefore do not make sense in Arabic, the main inscriptions reserved in white express good wishes to the owner of this jar, reading: "Lasting glory, abundant power, and favorable fortune."
