Submission of defeated Danube Germans (probably the Sarmatians). Sarcophagus of a Roman general (depicted seated and crowned by Victory). Marble high relief, Antonine, ca. 180 CE. The lid (belonging to another sarcophagus) portrays Erotes giving the Horai the fruits of the earth. This is meant to assimilate death to the seasonal cycle of life. Marble high relief, Antonine, 140-150 CE.
