Sangoku moat and main donjon of Himeji Castle. The present Momoyama castle of Hirayamajiro type was built in 1601-09 over an earlier 14th-16th century one. It is also known as Hakurojo or Shirasagijo (White Heron Castle). The castle was used in several movies directed by Akira Kurosawa, in the James Bond movie "You only live twice", and in the "Last Samurai".
