East Pagoda, Yakushi-ji, Nara. The East Pagoda is the only surviving structure from the original 8th century buildings. It is also the only example of Hakuko period architecture in Japan. The Yakushi-ji serves as the headquarters of the Hosso school of Japanese Buddhism.
