Moon mound, Ginshaden garden (Sea of Silver Sand), Ginkaku-ji temple, Kyoto. This kare-sansui (dry landscape) garden, was designed probably by the famous landscape designer Soami in the mid 15th century. The official name of the temple the garden belongs to, is Jisho-ji (Temple of Shining Mercy), and is also known in English as the Temple of the Silver Pavillion. It was built in 1474 by the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, grandson of Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Muromachi period.
