The charioteer of Delphi (detail), a votive offering from Polyzalos, prince of Syracuse, after victory in the races of 474 or 478 BCE. The bronze figure, probably with horses and chariot, was destroyed by an earthquake and discovered in the ruins of an archaic Apollo temple. Greek, 5th BCE.
