Lacquer cup. China, Han dynasty, 4th CE. From Sichuan. Laquer, gold and bronze. This wine-cup was excavated in North Korea, where China had several commanderies. It is painted with angular bird motifs resembling patterns on inlaid bronzes. The inscription states that the cup was made for the emperor at the Western Factory workshop in Shu. AC 1955,1024.1.
