Tomahawk-pipe, Plains People.
Iron, brass and wood. Tomahawk-pipe-stem made of wood with four bands of brass wire, mouthpiece inlaid with white metal; the front edge of the iron blade, the top of the blade and the socket are decorated with deeply gooved lines. The stem, in characteristic style of the period, is decorated with bands of copper wire wrapped round the stem and a pewter mouthpiece. The stem is pierced near the mouthpiece, probably for a hanging decoration, perhaps of feathers'. ET Am,Dc.69.a.
