The Battle of Issos. Alexander the Great is depicted riding his horse Bucephalus on the left. In this historical 333 BCE battle the Greeks defeated the Persians. High relief on the "Alexander Sarcophagus". Painted pentelic marble. Hellenistic, ca. 315-312 BCE, probably by Cephisodotus the Younger, one of the sons of Praxiteles. From the Royal necropolis of Sidon, Lebanon.
