The Battle of Gaza with King Abdalonymus in the center. The 312 BCE battle in which the king was killed, marked the falling of Phoenicia under the rule of Ptolomee. On the pediment: the murder of Perdiccas, the regent of the Macedonian Empire after Alexander's death. High relief on the "Alexander Sarcophagus". Painted pentelic marble. Hellenistic, ca. 315-312 BCE, probably by Cephisodotus the Younger, one of the sons of Praxiteles. From the Royal necropolis of Sidon, Lebanon.
