Float glass processor, c 1960. Model. Float glass was invented by Sir Alistair Pilkington (1920-1995) and first went into production in 1959. Molten glass is introduced into a molten tin bath. The glass floats on surface of the molten tin and cools gradually. This method allows the manufacture of glass from 0.3 mm to 25 mm.
