Augustus on a horse. He is wearing a tunica with clavus purpurea and a fringed paludamentum. The iconography recalls the statues of Primaporta and Actium, with the right hand raised in a gesture of greeting. On the bezel of his finger-ring is a staff of divination (lituus), symbol of the supreme religious office of Pontifex Maximus. Bronze statue. Imperial Roman, 12-10 BCE. Found in the Aegean sea between the islands of Euboea and Agios Efstratios.
