Coffin of a woman. One of a number of mummy cases from a tomb at Akhmim (near Sohag), Egypt, discovered around 1896. This anthropoid (human-shaped) coffin is made from gilded and painted papyrus. The owner wears clothes which were fashionable at the end of the Hellenistic period. Early Roman Period, late 1st BCE to early 1st CE. 151 x 54 x 48 cm. Inv. EA 29586.
