Astronomical clock on Anne Boleyn's Gate. East front of the Clock Court, Hampton Court Palace. In 1540 Henry VIII commissioned Nicholas Oursian the astronomical clock. It depicts the hours, days of the week, days of the month, the time of high tide, the phases of the moon, the signs of the zodiac in a pre-Copernican representation with the sun traveling around the Earth. The belfry above the clock was added by Sir Christopher Wren in the early 18th century.
