Wren, Sir Christopher (1632-1723)
Queen Anne Court and Queen Mary Court from the south, Royal Naval Hospital, Greenwich. The buildings were designed by Sir Christopher Wren that laid the foundations in 1696. Queen Anne Court was completed by Sir John Vanbrugh and Colen Campbell in the late 1720s. Queen Mary Court was completed by Thomas Ripley in 1742. They served the original function of hospice for injured sailors until 1869. They were then occupied by the Royal Naval College and, after 1998, by the University of Greenwich.
