Wren, Sir Christopher (1632-1723)
The Chapel, Queen Mary Court, Royal Naval Hospital, Greenwich. The building was designed by Sir Christopher Wren that laid the foundations in 1696 and completed by Thomas Ripley in 1742. It was rebuilt in Greek Revival style after a 1779 devastating fire by James "Athenian" Stuart in 1782-88. It served the hospice for injured sailors until 1869. It was then used by the Royal Naval College until 1998 when it was opened to the public.
