The Virgin Annunciate. Ca. 1545-1547. One of a series of studies preparatory to a cartonetto, a small drawing, produced by Michelangelo to assist Marcello Venusti (c. 1512-79) who, in the 1540s, had received the commission for an altarpiece (now lost) representing the Annunciation for the Cesi family chapel in Santa Maria della Pace in Rome.
