The Colossi of Memnon. West Thebes, Egypt. 18h dynasty. Close-up. They represent Pharaoh Amenophis III and once flanked the entrance to his funerary temple. The colossi became a pilgrimage destination and the Greeks identified them with Memnon, son of Aurora (Eos). Sandstone, Height 21.3 m.
