Fountain in the shape of a rhyton, a horn-shaped drinking cup. Pentelic marble. Neo-Attic sculpture by Pontios, Early Augustan period. Found in the Horti of Maecenas, Esquiline hill, Rome. The owner of this ancient residence was a friend and councilor of Emperor Augustus. His name is still used today to describe a generous patron of the arts. Hall of the Horti of Maecenas, Palazzo dei Conservatori, Musei Capitolini.
