Pailou, Temple of Confucius (Kong Miao), Beijing. The original temple was built in 1306 by the grandson of Kublai Khan. It underwent modifications and additions during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In Chinese architecture the term pailou, or paifang, defines a decorative archway.
