Roof detail of the Drum Tower (Gu lou Dongdajie), Beijing. The tower was originally built in 1272, during the Yuan dynasty, marking the center of the old Mongol capital Dadu and then rebuilt in 1420. The drums inside the tower were beaten to mark the hours of the day.
