Ivory casket with views of musicians & drinkers. Cordoba or Cuenca, Spain, ca. 1000-1025. Ivory and silver. Silver mounts 17th-18th CE. Carved with scenes of paired animals of various kinds, set within circular medallions; however, the two medallions on the front of the casket contain human figures drinking and playing music in a garden setting. An interesting transitionary piece between the Caliphal/Amirid ivory industries and that of the taifa period. Carved ivory casket with silver mounts, 26.8 x 26.2 x 16.2 cm. Inv. 10-1866.
