Vasari, Giorgio (1511-1574)
Sepulchre of Michelangelo Buonarroti, designed by Vasari after the remains of the great artist arrived in Florence from Rome (1564). Three sculptures represent the personifications of Painting (by Battista Lorenzi, also author of the bust of the artist), around 1568, of Sculpture (by Valerio Cioli) and of Architecture (attributed to Battista Lorenzi, once referred to Giovanni Bandini), saddened by the disappearance of the great master. The whole of the tomb is a mixture of painting, sculpture and architecture. The frescoes are by Giovan Battista Naldini.
